She began publishing her work at the end of the 1970s and within a few years became extremely well known for her short stories. Many of those were turned into anime, including stories from Mermaid Saga, a manga series that ran for ten years from 1984 to 1994. This was adapted as an anime for the Rumic World series volume 4.
